As cannabis becomes more legal, the industry surrounding it continues to expand. Despite these roadblocks, the explosion in cannabis popularity has meant an explosion in cannabis products this decade. Because THC and CBD can enter the body in so many ways -smoking, vaping, ingesting, through skin – the number of products that can be made with it are, if not endless, certainly bountiful. Certain products, though, seem to be more prominent, or at least on the rise, than others.

Tokyo Smoke currently operates 7 cannabis dispensaries in Manitoba, 6 dispensaries in Alberta, and 27 in Ontario. The company no longer operates its 3 coffee shops: 2 in Toronto, and 1 in Calgary. These coffee shops did not sell cannabis, instead, they sold coffee, cafe food, and cannabis accessories. In September 2018, Tokyo Smoke announced that they have received approval to build up to 10 cannabis stores in Manitoba. In Ontario, where licensed producers are restricted from owning more than 9.9 per cent of a cannabis store, Canopy Growth has entered into branding agreements with retail license owners to open stores under the Tokyo Smoke name.

Cannabis rules
Under the federal Cannabis Act, adults who are 18 years of age or older can legally possess cannabis within certain limits. It is important to note that although the federal minimum age for possession of cannabis in public is 18, most provinces and territories have raised the minimum age requirement to 19. In Quebec, the age is 21.
Individuals who have attained the legal age of possession in their province can legally possess the following:
Up-to 30 grams of legal cannabis, dried, or the following equivalents:
- 150 grams of fresh cannabis
- 450 grams of edible product
- 2,100 grams of liquid product
- 5 grams of concentrates (solid or liquid)
- 30 cannabis plant seeds
Share up-to 30 grams with other adults.
Purchase fresh and dried cannabis, and cannabis oils from authorized provincial or territorial retailers.
Grow for personal use up-to 4 plants per residence (not per person) from licensed seeds or seedlings.
Make cannabis products, such as food and drinks, at home as long as organic solvents are not used to create concentrated products.
Limits for cannabis possession at home
Under provincial and territorial rules, the amount of cannabis someone can possess at home is as follows:
No Limits: Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Prince Edward Island
British Columbia: 1,000 grams
Nunavut and Quebec: 150 grams
Saskatchewan and Yukon: No amount has been set.

How should I store my cannabis?
The best way to keep your flower fresh is to keep it in a cool, dark, dry place. Light, heat, and moisture will all contribute to a change in the cannabinoids of your cannabis. Dark glass containers protect from harmful UV rays, while letting non-harmful UV rays to penetrate through.
Avoid the following when storing your cannabis:
- Keeping the cannabis in a plastic bag.
- Keeping it in a container that is too large for the quantity (that means extra oxygen!).
- Storing your stash in a sunny place.
- Storing it in clear glass rather than dark.
- Storing it in the fridge or freezer. Freezing can make your trichomes break off, which drastically alters your experience, and the fridge is a very cool and dark place but there is often a lot of moisture in a fridge.
The best temperature to store cannabis
The ideal temperature to store your weed is right around 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius). Why? High temperatures combined with high relative humidity can lead to mold and mildew — the nemeses of safe and healthy cannabis.
High temperatures can also dry out your flower and evaporate sensitive terpenes, but this should only concern you if you plan on using a flower vape with precise temperature control. After all, lighting up a joint with a flame is going to destroy most of them anyway.
What About Cannabis Products?
Cannabis-infused products like edibles and other types of perishables will have their own guidelines, so store and refrigerate as directed. Always use them by the stated expiration date and keep them in their original container. Tinctures and concentrates can also degrade from light, heat, and humidity. So always keep them in a cool, dry, dark place.
We know we just threw a lot of information at you about cannabis storage, but don’t stress too much about storing your weed. We think the best way to get the most bang for your cannabis buck is to smoke it in a timely fashion. That way, it’s always guaranteed fresh!
How long will my cannabis stay fresh?
If you store it as above – sheltering it from light, air, moisture, and high temperatures – your cannabis should stay fresh for around 6 months.
